USC Aiken Races Past Southern Wesleyan In Home Opener

AIKEN, S.C. – Head coach Adam Kleman picked up his first career victory as the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team notched a 7-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan Wednesday evening in the home opener.

The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season. The Warriors are now 0-1-1.

USC Aiken scored three first-half goals in a four-minute span and never looked back. Late in the first half, Burns Brazzell rocketed a shot toward frame that the keeper deflected. Brooke Salerno was quick to the ball and promptly one-timed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage in the 35th minute of play.

At the 36:48 mark, Avery List flicked the ball past the keeper at the lower left of the goal for a 2-0 margin. Just 80 seconds later, Kenna Souder took the corner kick. Riley Stallings was on the receiving end of the play and ripped a shot into the back of the goal for the 3-0 lead.

Just over five minutes into the second stanza, Carmen Jones took a corner kick and played it into the box. Mackenzie Cochrane headed it home for a 4-0 advantage.

Reagan Leonard added to the total in the 55th minute of play. Shiloh Pirro found Leonard in the middle of the box. Leonard turned and blasted the point-blank shot into the left side of the goal.

Playing near the top of the box in the 63rd minute, Salerno found List who promptly one-timed it to Carmen Jones. She rocketed home a shot from 30 yards out to the upper right of the frame for a 6-0 lead.

With just over eight minutes to play, Leonard connected with Teagan Kersey, who promptly belted a shot past the keeper for the final score of the evening.

For the match, Kleman's team tallied 28 shots, including 20 on frame. Emma Gibson and Kaydence Moore split time between the pipes. Each had one save in the win.
