AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-0 contest to Lander Saturday afternoon in the PBC opener for both teams.
The Pacers are now 1-2 on the season, including 0-1 in league action.
Just 3:25 into the contest, head coach
Adam Kleman's team nearly got on the board when
Shiloh Pirro blasted an attempt from 15 yards out. However, it was saved, keeping the contest scoreless. Four minutes later,
Brooke Salerno launched a shot that curled to the right of the frame.
The Bearcats netted the go-ahead goal in the 12
th minute of action. Pirro and Salerno each rocketed shots that were thwarted by the keeper just minutes later. The visitors managed to net another goal late in the period to make it 2-0 at the break.
Lander tried to add more in the second half but
Kaydence Moore was up to the task. Time after time, Moore turned away the offensive attack by the Bearcats including multiple one-on-one shots and others from point-blank range.
Despite pushing forward, Kleman's team was unable to find the back of the net.
For the contest, Pirro registered two shots on goal.
Mia Duncan and Salerno each had one shot on frame.
Karis Coleman tallied a shot in the match.
Between the pipes, Moore played all 90 minutes and stopped 16 shots.
