MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision at Clayton State Saturday afternoon in a league match.
The Pacers are now 1-4 overall and 0-3 against PBC teams. The Lakers are now 3-3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
In the 11
th minute of action,
Jordan Huynh-Luetkemeyer ripped a shot on target but it was thwarted by the keeper. Seven minutes later,
Shiloh Pirro's shot was stopped by the keeper, leaving the contest scoreless.
Pirro rocketed an attempt in the 28
th minute of action but it was high. Five minutes later,
Sonya Villarreal's shot narrowly missed to the left of the goal.
Kaydence Moore was up to the challenge in the first half, stopping all three shots on goal by the home team as the score remained 0-0 entering the second half of action.
Clayton State found the back of the net in the 55
th minute for a 1-0 advantage.
After three consecutive throw-ins, head coach
Adam Kleman's team earned a corner kick. However, the team was unable to get a shot off the set piece in the 63
rd minute of action.
Pirro blasted a shot in the 78
th minute that sailed high of the crossbar. USC Aiken earned a corner kick at the 83:03 mark but the squad could not muster a shot on the play. Clayton State quickly went the distance of the pitch and found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead with 6:40 to play.
For the match, Pirro led the visitors with five shots, including two on goal. Huynh-Luetkemeyer had a shot on goal. Villarreal and
Brooke Salerno also registered shots in the contest.
Moore stopped nine shots between the pipes while playing all 90 minutes.
