GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest at Lander Saturday.
The Pacers are now 9-3 overall and 0-2 in PBC play.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-17.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Alli Bishop,
Emily Lammers and
Anna Sommer as all three shared team-high honors with seven kills apiece.
Mallory Barash tallied a double-double with 26 assists, 16 digs and for good measure she added four kills while hitting .444.
Kari Mercer and
Lexi Rogers added 10 digs and eight digs, respectively.
Trailing 14-8 in the first set, an attack error by the home team and a kill from Bishop pulled the team within four. The Bearcats stopped the spurt and notched a 21-13 margin. USC Aiken battled back with four straight points but it was as close as the team could get in the set.
Lander led throughout the tightly-contested second frame. Down 14-10, Bishop answered with a kill. A miscue by the Bearcats and a kill from Rogers made it 14-13. Trailing 22-19, Bishop and Gyongyver Araczki posted back-to-back kills. USC Aiken would draw within one at 23-22 but the team could not get any closer.
Cox's team found itself behind 4-3 in the third set but Lammers slammed home a kill. Barash tallied a kill before an error by the Bearcats made it 6-4 in favor of the visitors. Tied at 6-6, two errors by LU gave the Pacers a 2-0 margin. Tied at 11-11, two straight miscues by the Bearcats pushed the margin to 13-11. The Bearcats responded with a 5-0 run and managed to register an eight-point victory.
