USC Aiken Scores Two Second-Half Goals In Tie At Belmont Abbey

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team netted a pair of second-half goals en route to a 2-2 draw at Belmont Abbey Thursday evening in the season opener.

The Pacers are now 0-0-1 on the season.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team trailed 2-0 late in the match but Lucas Pegorer found Jose Rabadan, who then played the ball into the lower left of the frame to make it 2-1 in the 73rd minute of play. USC Aiken maintained the momentum as Rabadan then found Pegorer, who promptly turned and fired a low shot past the keeper, tying the match at the 74:56 mark.

BAC tried to take the lead in the waning moments of regulation but Tyler Hughes was up for the task. He stopped a pair of point-blank attempts, keeping the score tied at 2-2. Hughes entered the contest at halftime and played a stellar 45 minutes between the pipes.

The home squad took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. At the 16:15 mark, Pegorer rocketed an attempt that sailed just high of the frame. USC Aiken continued to push forward as Rabadan registered a shot on frame less than a minute later, but his effort was saved.

In the 19th minute of action, Pegorer blasted a shot that was thwarted by the keeper as the match remained at 1-0 in favor of BAC.

Although Cason Donahue was able to turn away the Crusaders momentarily with a save, the home team broke through for a 2-0 edge at the 30:58 mark. Diego Vega tried to pull the visitors within one at the 44:04 mark but his shot to the lower right of the goal was stopped by the keeper.

Ofoje's team tallied 10 shots in the match, including five on goal. Pegorer had five shots in the contest while Rabadan had three attempts. Wynston Johnson and Vega each had shots in the draw.

Between the pipes, Donahue played 45 minutes and had a save while Hughes stopped both shots he saw in the second half.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Newberry for a contest starting at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
