Spirit Squad | June 09, 2023
AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken had many thrilling moments throughout the action-packed 2022-2023 season. Whether it was on the diamond, the court, the course, the tee box or the pitch, PacerSports.com is going to relive some of those unforgettable highlights that defines the Pacers' spirit a sport at a time.
The Spirit Squad does not compete on the court like other teams. Instead, it is a cutting-edge team that incorporates aspects of cheer and dance. Formed prior to the 2020-21 season, the squad is in its third year of existence.
The 2020-21 season served as something that was unique to every team, including the Spirit Squad. The team was not allowed to leave the bleachers during games. Even though that was technically the start of the program, the 2022-23 team was only the second team that was allowed on the court during games.
The Spirit Squad thrived in several aspects during the 2022-23 season. The team was on the sideline for select volleyball games in addition to virtually every home men's and women's basketball game. The squad also had the ability to experience the NCAA Tournament as it was on the sideline for all three of the USC Aiken men's basketball NCAA Tournament games (held in Augusta).
Despite having several individual highlights on and off the court – including coming together as a team, the ability to pick up new cheers and dances throughout the season and carrying over a 3.0 GPA as a team, some of the most memorable moments were made during the NCAA Tournament run. Being able to experience a postseason run brought a new perspective about what they can add to the teams and atmosphere.Â
