AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team took the series finale against Georgia Southwestern 7-1 Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Pacers are now 26-16 on the year and 18-6 in the PBC.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team got on the board first in the home half of the second inning starting with a walk by
Luke Parker. Parker stole second and was pushed to third when
Joseph Mozingo singled through the left side. A fielder's choice by
Kaden Usry erased Mozingo but allowed Parker to score.
Nick Tripp singled as the next batter up and moved Usry to second.
Kaden Blankenship doubled to right center scoring both Tipp and Usry making the score 3-0.
USC Aiken added an insurance run in the third inning when
Jackson Hannon started the inning with a double down the left field line. Hannon was moved to the hot corner on a sacrifice bunt by
Justin Byrd and then scored on a ground out by Parker.
The Hurricanes shrunk the lead to three with a run in the top of the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Mozingo took the first pitch offered and singled to right field. A sacrifice bunt by Usry advanced Mozingo to second. With one away, Blankenship was walked putting runners on first and second. After a pitching change, a single by
Jose Hernandez that ricocheted off the pitcher and rolled into shallow left field scored Mozingo and pushed Blankenship to third increasing the lead to 5-1.
With runners on the corners,
Josh Sharp tripled down the right field line plating Blankenship and Hernandez making the score 7-1.
For the game, Hannon hit two doubles on two-for-three hitting with a run. Blankenship hit for a double with a run scored and two RBI. Sharp collected two RBI on his triple. Mozingo went three-for-four with a run. Parker hit for a single, scored a run, collected and RBI and stole a base.
On the mound,
Austin Sandifer started the game and collected his second win of the season with six innings pitched allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. In relief,
Jacob Bodkin pitched a frame allowing one hit.
AJ Deibel and
Dylan Wilhelm each hurled an inning with neither giving up a hit.
The Pacers return to action on Wednesday, April 19 to face Southern Wesleyan at home in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
