AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 12-0 contest in an eight-inning run-rule affair to Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in game two of the series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Pacers are now 25-16 on the year and 17-6 in the conference.
Through four innings both teams featured an incredible pitcher's duel.
Joel Haney got the start on the mound and gave up no hits through the first four innings while striking out two.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team struck first with the first hit of the game in the bottom of the second when
Luke Parker singled to left field. A fly out and a pop up kept Parker at first and ended the inning.
In the bottom of the third,
Jackson Hannon added the second hit of the game to the board, but with two away, USC Aiken was caught stealing to end the inning.
The home half of the fourth saw
Joseph Mozingo reach base by way of a single down the left field line, but a fielder's choice to
Nick Tripp erased Mozingo.
The hits and runs started for the visitors in the fifth inning when they plated two. The Hurricanes added four in the sixth and six more in the eighth making the score 12-0.
USC Aiken threatened in the fifth, down by only two at the time, when
Kaden Usry doubled to right center. Two batters later,
Jose Hernandez was walked putting runners on first and second. Usry was picked off at second; however, for the second out of the inning. A fly out ended the frame.
With a leadoff walk in the sixth for the Pacers, three straight swinging strikeouts closed out the inning.
In the eighth,
Justin Byrd started the inning with a double to left center and advanced to third on a single by Mozingo to center. A double play ended the last threat for the Pacers and ended the game.
For the game, Usry had a double and a single on two-for-three hitting. Byrd added a double in three at-bats. Mozingo went two-for-four and Parker hit for a single.
In relief,
Cole Evilsizor, worked one inning giving up two runs on one hit while striking out one. Parker also pitched a frame giving up four runs on three hits and striking out one.
