AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is in 10
th place after the first day of competition at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team shot 19-over par, 579, on the par-70, 6,617 yard course for the first 36 holes of play.
South Carolina leads the field at seven-under par, 553. Wisconsin is second after shooting even-par, 560 while Mercer stands in third at one-over par, 561. VCU (+2, 562 and Davidson are tied for fourth in the 15-team field. The Pacers are the lone Division II team in the tournament.
USC Aiken was led by
Jonah Winter's three-over par, 143. After shooting 73 on the opening round, Winter's even-par, 70, marked the team's lowest round of the day.
Oscar Abrahamsson and
Leonardo Bono are tied for 36
th. The duo each shot five-over par, 145. Abrahamsson shot one-over par, 71, in the first round before carding a four-over par, 74, for the second round. Bono shot four-over par, 74, before tallying a one-over par, 71, during the next 18 holes of competition.
Rory McDonald O'Brien and
Erik Olin are tied for 50
th at nine-over par, 149.
