Araczki Guides USC Aiken To 3-0 Win Over Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Flagler Tuesday evening.

The Pacers are now 15-7 on the season, including a 3-6 ledger in the PBC. Set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-14.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Emily Lammers' nine kills and nine digs. Gyöngyvér Araczki accounted for seven kills while hitting .538. She added three blocks and two assists. Kaitlyn Rodriguez chipped in six kills to go along with nine digs and two blocks while Sadie Mckay notched five kills and six digs.

Mallory Barash added to her double-double total with 23 assists with 12 digs. Kari Mercer registered nine digs, an ace and a kill. 

In the first set, USC Aiken led 9-8 before Flagler had a service error. After another error, Kaitlyn Rodriguez and Araczki blocked an attempt for a 12-8 margin. Moments later, Araczki slammed home a kill for a 16-11 advantage. A kill from Lammers forced a time-out. After the break, two straight errors by the Saints pushed the score to 19-11. Tied at 23-23, Araczki hammered home a pass from Barash. Then, Barash took a pass from Lammers and ended the set with a short kill.

Trailing 10-8 in the second frame, McKay got things going with a point. After trading points, Lammers knotted the score off a pass from Barash. The teams went back-and-forth but an attack error by the Saints gave USC Aiken momentum. Rodriguez added a kill for a 16-14 edge, forcing a time-out. The run continued after the miscue as the home team led 19-14. Up 23-17, Mercer had the rare libero kill after a wild play at the net. Two plays later, McKay tipped one over the befuddled defense for the 25-18 victory.

Up 3-2 in the third frame, Lammers crushed a pass from Barash. After an error by Flagler, Lammers once again pounded down a kill off a pass from Barash. Leading 7-4, McKay recorded a kill, sparking a 6-0 run. During the spurt, Araczki had two aces while Barash added a kill. Up 13-5, USC Aiken rattled off three more points for a 16-5 lead. Up 22-14, the Saints committed three straight errors to end the match.
