Rabadan’s Goal Lifts USC Aiken To 1-0 Win

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team netted a second-half goal in the 1-0 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 2-8-1 on the year, including a 2-5 mark in PBC play.

Jose Rabadan took a pass from Wynston Johnson at the 71:35 mark and promptly found the back of the net for what turned out to be the match-winning goal. USC Aiken dominated possession and had a solid all-around showing in Saturday's match.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team pushed forward from the outset. Just 93 seconds in, Rabadan launched a shot to the lower left of the frame but the keeper managed to stop it. Johnson's shot 30 seconds later was also saved.

In the seventh minute, Hippolyte Denis ripped a shot to the lower left of the goal as well but the Hurricanes managed to come up with a save. Jaymee Kambel's attempt in the ninth minute of action missed high of the goal.

Rabadan and Michael Sokolik each produced shots in the 21st minute of play. Late in the half, Rabadan and Lucas Pegorer tallied shots but neither found the back of the net, keeping the contest scoreless at halftime.

Just moments into the second half, a corner kick led to a shot by Finlay Dyer. Kambel also recorded an early attempt, but it missed left.

Sokolik placed a shot on goal but it was thwarted by the keeper in the 69th minute of play. Fabian Avila also notched a shot on frame in the 71st minute.

Less than a minute after Avila's shot, Rabadan scored his thrilling goal. Rabadan played the ball to Johnson near the top of the box. Rabadan ran to Johnson's right, received the pass and rocketed the twisting shot to the left side of the goal.

For the match, USC Aiken held a 14-11 edge in shots, including an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. Ofoje's team recorded nine corner kicks compared to just two by the home squad.

Cason Donahue stopped the lone shot on goal. Rabadan tallied five shots, including three on goal – and the lone goal of the night. Sokolik had two shots, including one on goal. Johnson accounted for an assist on the game winner.
