Pacers Fall To Bobcats, 3-1

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-1 contest to Georgia College & State Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 12-5 overall and 2-4 in league play. 

Emily Lammers led everyone with 18 kills and 23 digs for a double-double. Lexi Rogers totaled 11 kills while Gyöngyvér Araczki notched 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.

Sadie McKay chipped in eight kills while Anna Sommer had four. Brooke Wroten and Mallory Barash each had three kills. 

Barash led the way with 36 assists and Sophie Meredith tallied 11. 

Defensively, Kari Mercer totaled 19 digs while Kaitlyn Rodriguez accounted for 12 kills. 

Head coach Glenn Cox's team notched 60 kills compared to 52 by the visitors but USC Aiken had 12 more attack errors in the match.

After dropping the first two frames, the Pacers battled back in the third stanza. Down 7-6, Rogers slammed home a kill. A miscue by the visitors and a kill from Rogers made it 9-7.

Tied at 10-10, Mckay got things going with a thunderous kill. Araczki stuffed an attempt before Lammers hammered home a pass from Barash. Mercer served up an ace and McKay notched another kill for a 15-10 advantage.

GCSU pulled within one at 17-16 but Araczki answered the call with a kill. Barash found the court for a point before Rogers tallied three straight kills. Wroten got in for a kill before a visiting point made it 23-17. Three plays later, Wroten finished the set with a kill.

In a tightly-contested fourth set, McKay pulled the home team within two at 12-10 but two straight points by the visitors pushed the margin to four, 14-10. Down 17-13, Araczki garnered a point. At 18-13, Rogers added a kill and a ball handling error by the Bobcats made it 18-15. 

Down 23-16, Lammers posted back-to-back kills. Rogers and Lammers tallied points but the Bobcats rattled off the final two points for the victory.
