AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to North Georgia Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-8-1 on the year and 1-5 in league action. The Nighthawks are now 6-5-2 on the season and 3-2-2 against conference foes.
Head coach
Ike Ofoje's team pushed forward in the opening minutes, earning a corner kick. Seconds later,
Hippolyte Denis' header sailed high of the frame. At the 3:00 mark,
Fabian Avila rocketed a shot toward the frame but it narrowly missed as well.
The Nighthawks got on the board at the 14:24 mark for a 1-0 edge. Four minutes later, the visitors tacked on a second score.
In the 39
th minute of play,
Jaymee Kambel blasted an attempt toward the goal. However, it was stopped by the keeper. Ofoje's squad pushed forward into the offensive third of the pitch.
Wynston Johnson and
Michael Sokolik each had attempts that were blocked in the last five minutes of action. With 2:29 to play in the period, Kambel's shot from 20 yards out was stopped.
USC Aiken had an outstanding chance in the 60th minute of play. After a foul,
Jose Rabadan took the kick from 22 yards out. He curled the ball toward the upper left of the frame. However, the keeper managed to get a fingertip on the ball to deflect it from finding the back of the net.
For the match, Kambel and Rabadan each had three shots. Between the pipes,
Tyler Hughes accounted for three saves.
