GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team placed four student-athletes in double figures in the 83-70 win at Lander Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-3 on the season, including 3-0 in league play. The Bearcats are now 9-3 on the year and 1-1 against PBC teams.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Tehree Horn's season-best 26 points. He buried four three-point shots, snagged seven rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory.
Tyler Johnson accounted for 17 points, six boards and a team-best four assists.
Jalen McCoy and
Daniel Parrish chipped in 10 points apiece. McCoy shared team-high honors with seven rebounds.
Jameel Rideout and
Karon Boyd added eight points and seven markers, respectively. Boyd also registered three steals.
Trailing 11-7, Horn found Parrish for a three-ball at the 13:52 mark. Parrish connected on a lay-up for a 12-11 lead. Parrish hit another shot from distance for a four-point advantage.
Up 15-14,
Devin Evans took a pass from Johnson and canned a three-ball. At the 8:39 mark, Parrish hit Johnson for a shot from distance for a 21-14 lead. McCoy's hook shot stretched the advantage to nine before Johnson's three-point bucket pushed the score to 26-14. Horn's runner extended the lead to 14, 28-14, with 5:22 to go, ending the 13-0 spurt. Leading 32-21, Boyd netted the final four points of the half.
The Pacers never let the lead dwindle to single digits in the second period – and held a 71-52 lead with just over three minutes to play.
Leading 56-43,
Jammy Pierre-Louis drained a jumper with 8:50 to go. Boyd found Horn for a lay-up at the 7:59 mark for a 17-point advantage. USC Aiken maintained a 66-52 lead before McCoy connected on an inside shot. Horn hit Johnson for a three-point bucket, giving the visitors a 71-52 lead with 3:30 to go.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 32-of-66 from the floor (48.5 percent), including 10-of-21 from downtown (47.6 percent). The squad canned nine-of-10 from the charity stripe (90.0 percent). The Pacers held a 39-28 edge on the glass, including an 11-9 margin on the offensive boards. Vanderslice's team led for nearly 35 minutes.
The team dished out 15 assists and held an 11-9 edge in second-chance points.
The victory now gives USC Aiken a 54-52 lead in the all-time series after winning five of the last six games.
