USC Aiken Drops Contest To Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a 90-82 decision to Flagler Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 10-4 on the season, including 3-1 in league play. The Saints stand at 7-8 overall and 1-3 against PBC teams.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Jalen McCoy's 17 points and eight rebounds. Tehree Horn added 14 points while Karon Boyd and Jameel Rideout tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Tyler Johnson accounted for six points and eight rebounds while Demitrios Dixon posted seven markers.

DeShawn Thomas swatted a game-high three shots while also pulling down five boards to go along with four points.

Flagler jumped out to a 19-3 edge but USC Aiken managed to make it a four-point game at 27-23 when Jammy Pierre-Louis canned a three-point shot with 10:21 to go.

Trailing by nine moments later, a three-ball from Johnson once again cut the deficit to four. However, the team could get no closer the rest of the way. The Saints led 56-42 at the break.

Flagler led by 17 with 11:46 to go but Vanderslice's team would push the Saints to the brink. A lay-up by Horn sliced the margin to 11 with 1:31 to play. Horn found McCoy for a shot from distance on the ensuing possession to make it an eight-point game with 60 seconds to go.

A lay-up by Rideout pulled the home team within six with 43 seconds to play and Rideout once again pulled the team within six with 29 ticks on the clock but the visitors managed to make a pair of free throws for the final tally.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 31-of-75 from the floor (41.3 percent). The team connected on 10 three-point baskets. The Pacers outrebounded the visitors 40-39 and held a 19-17 edge in points off turnovers.
