MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken used a balanced scoring attack and cruised to a 92-69 win at Clayton State.
The Pacers are now 12-5 on the season, including 5-2 in league play.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Jalen McCoy's 18 points and six rebounds.
Karon Boyd registered 16 points and seven boards.
Jammy Pierre-Louis came off the bench to net 13 markers while adding four rebounds.
Tyler Johnson accounted for 11 markers, five rebounds and two assists while
Tehree Horn contributed nine points, nine rebounds and two assists.
Demitrios Dixon notched eight points while
DeShawn Thomas chipped in six.
Samba Ndiaye and
Jameel Rideout each snagged five boards in the victory.
Tied at 19-19, McCoy connected on a lay-up. At the 9:38 mark, Horn found Dixon for a three-ball. Up 24-21, Horn sliced through the defense for a bucket. With 8:25 to play, Boyd made a lay-up. Back-to-back lay-ups from Rideout and Boyd finished the spurt with the visitors up 32-21.
Rideout and McCoy converted shots with just under three minutes to play in the half, giving USC Aiken a 45-28 lead. The Lakers completed the first period 9-2 run to close the gap to 47-37 at the break.
Leading by eight, 47-39, Thomas threw down a thunderous dunk. Horn scored the next five points, including a sensational three-ball, pushing the score to 54-39.
With the score at 60-47, McCoy converted a three-point play. Johnson buried a shot from distance before Ndiaye extended the margin to 21, 68-47, with 12:36 to play.
Vanderslice's team maintained a 78-52 lead at the halfway point of the second half thanks to five straight points from McCoy.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 37-of-75 from the floor (49.3 percent). The team buried nine three-point attempts and hit nine-of-12 from the charity stripe (75.0 percent).
Vanderlice's out-rebounded the home team 50-32. The Pacers tallied 45 points off the bench. The squad forced 12 turnovers and converted them into 16 points. USC Aiken outscored the Lakers 52-28 in the paint.
