CENTRAL, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team registered a 2-1 win at Southern Wesleyan as
Megan Gettys provided the fireworks with a pair of second-half scores.
The Pacers are now 2-0-1 on the season.
Baylea Payne registered a shot at the 3:22 mark of the first half, but it was blocked. Payne's shot at the 23:30 mark to the lower right was saved, keeping the score at 0-0. Gettys fired a shot in the 32
nd minute, but it missed right of the frame.
SWU managed to take a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute.
Jasiah Pack's tried to answer a moment later, but her shot to the lower left of the goal was thwarted by the keeper. The score remained at 1-0 entering the second half of play.
Head coach
Tina Murphy's team went on the offensive attack and knotted the score at 1-1 when Gettys blasted a shot to the lower left of the goal at the 61:15 mark.
Jackie Montes was credited with an assist on the play. Gettys managed to break through the defense for the second time with a shot in the lower left of the frame for what turned out to be the match-winning score with just under 12 minutes to play.
Avery List picked up the assist on the winning tally.
For the match, Gettys led the way with five shots, including two on frame – both of which were goals. Payne accounted for four shots.
Between the pipes,
Caitlin Thomason registered two saves while
Kaydence Moore had four.
