GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Lander Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-0-2 on the season. The Bearcats stand at 2-1-2. Both teams are 0-0-1 in PBC play.
After a foul was whistled on Lander,
Shiloh Pirro took the kick from 35 yards out and played it into the box. The ball took one bounce, went between two defenders and past the diving keeper into the lower left side of the frame for a 1-0 lead at the 4:23 mark.
Lander tied the match in the 13
th minute of action on an own goal.
Caitlin Thomason turned away a pair of attempts moments later by the Bearcats. In the 23
rd minute of play,
Jackie Montes ripped a shot but it was stopped, keeping the contest at 1-1.
Baylea Payne's attempt just before halftime was also saved, keeping the match at 1-1 entering the second stanza.
LU recorded a three shots in the first 13 minutes of the second half, but none were on frame.
Jordan Huynh-Luetkemeyer ripped an attempt that sailed high in the 60
th minute of play.
Kaydence Moore promptly stopped three shots by the Bearcats within a four-minute span. Head coach
Tina Murphy's team went on the offensive attack in the 75
th minute. However,
Karis Coleman's shot missed high.
No other shots were on goal the reminder of the match, sending the teams to the draw.
For the contest, USC Aiken recorded five shots, including one on goal. Thomason played the first 45 minutes and stopped two shots while Moore played the second half and had three saves.
The tie marks the fifth between the teams – and the first tie since a 1-1 draw on Oct. 1, 2014.
