ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 4-2 decision at Flagler Wednesday in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 1-5 on the season, including 1-3 against conference competition.
Head coach
Ike Ofoje's team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute of action. After earning a corner kick,
Vittorio Cucciati found the back of the net in the middle of the frame for the one-goal edge.
Fabian Avila was credited with the assist on the play. The shot was from a mere yard out thanks in part to the corner kick.
The Saints tied the score in the 27
th minute of work and took the lead for good at the 30:07 mark. Less than two minutes before halftime, Flagler struck again for a 3-1 advantage.
Four minutes into the second half,
Wynston Johnson ripped a shot that sailed just high of the frame.
Jaymee Kambel's shot in the 69
th minute was blocked. After the corner kick,
Pedro Marexiano's attempt sailed high.
Landen Williams blasted a shot at the 70:02 mark, but he was turned away by the keeper.
The Saints posted a score at the 78:43 mark for a 4-1 advantage.
Despite the three-goal deficit, USC Aiken continued to push forward. A foul at the 84:54 mark on the Saints resulted in a penalty kick for the Pacers. Johnson calmly stepped up to the ball and booted it home to make it a 4-2 contest.
For the match, USC Aiken recorded eight shots, including two on goal.
Cason Donahue played the first 45 minutes between the pipes and stopped two shots while
Tyler Hughes played the second half. He also garnered a save.
