Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

USC Aiken Is Unable To Defeat Young Harris

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 5-0 contest to Young Harris Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 1-6 on the season, including 1-4 in PBC action.

USC Aiken played the visitors extremely tough throughout the match. The Pacers trailed just 1-0 late in the first half before being whistled for a foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick. The ensuing shot gave the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

YHC managed to score three more goals in the second half for the final tally, but the match was closer than the score indicated.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team accounted for nine shots in the match. They came via Fabian Avila, Vittorio Cucciati, Hippolyte Denis and Wynston Johnson. Substitutes Isaiah Brunson, Jaymee Kambel, Ejemai Ohiwerei, Davide Panucci, and Abelardo Rodriguez each tallied attempts.

Avila ripped a shot that sailed high of the frame just 3:01 into the match. In the 12th minute of play, Johnson rocketed an attempt that was thwarted by the keeper.

Down 2-0 early in the second half, Denis posted a shot on goal. Kambel garnered an attempt in the 65th minute that was saved. Trailing 3-0, Ohiwerei blasted a shot from 30 yards out that sailed high.

Panucci's shot in the 84th minute missed high.

Tyler Hughes got the starting nod in the pipes and totaled four saves. Cason Donahue came in late in the second half and promptly registered a save on a one-on-one play.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they travel to North Georgia for a PBC contest at 4:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
