AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team played Clayton State to a scoreless draw in the home opener Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-1-3 on the season, including 0-1-2 in PBC play. The Lakers stand at 0-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 against conference competition.
In the first half,
Olivia Pall blasted a shot that sailed just wide of the frame in the 16
th minute of work.
The Lakers posted back-to-back shots moments later but
Caitlin Thomason was up to the challenge.
Head coach
Tina Murphy's team pushed forward in the final 10 minutes of the period but
Sonya Villarreal's attempt was saved.
Jackie Montes ripped a shot from 20 yards out but it was high of the crossbar.
Karis Coleman started the second period with a shot in the 47
th minute of play but it missed high of the goal.
Near midfield in the 87
th minute,
Mackenzie Cochrane took a free kick. It nearly found the back of the net, but the keeper managed to punch it over the frame.
In the final minute of action,
Megan Gettys ripped a shot from 30 yards out, but it was turned away.
For the match, USC Aiken posted 10 shots, including three on goal. Murphy's group tallied six corner kicks.
Thomason registered seven saves on the day while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.
