AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken is excited to announce tryout information for the 2022-23 Spirit Squad.

The squad is a cutting-edge athletic team that is an integral part of USC Aiken athletic events. On the court, the Spirit Squad will showcase their complex choreography while also keeping the crowd involved both at basketball and select volleyball matches. Off the court, the squad will appear at multiple community service events each year on behalf of USC Aiken.

Tryouts will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 starting at 8 p.m. at Burns Dance Studio in Aiken, S.C. It is located at 1560 Hamilton Dr., Aiken, S.C.  29803.

REQUIREMENTS TO TRYOUT

In order to tryout, students must be enrolled as a full-time student at USC Aiken or be an incoming student for the upcoming fall semester.

Students trying out must turn in a proof of insurance and a sports physical by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30. This can be turned into the USC Aiken Athletic Department in person or e-mailed via wetransfer.com to brenth@usca.edu and brandona@usca.edu.

Participants should wear fitness or dancewear. No baggie clothes or denim. Expectations for tryouts are to look as if you would like to be part of the Spirit Squad gameday experience.

Participants should have at least two years of dance technique or high school/competition cheer team experience. 

No paper documentation for sports physicals and insurance will be allowed the day of tryouts. 

Be prepared to begin the tryout promptly at 8 p.m.

Student-athletes on the team will be required to be in good standing academically at USC Aiken (above a 2.0 GPA).   

The team will have components of both cheer and dance. Practices will be weekly during the fall and spring semesters.
