USC Aiken Drops Regular-Season Finale

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost the regular-season finale at Lander by an 8-4 score.

The Pacers are now 20-27 on the season, including a 12-15 ledger in PBC play.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, USC Aiken knotted the score with a pair of runs. With two down, Jackson Hannon recorded an infield single. Sean McQuillan tied the game with a two-run blast over the right field fence.

The Pacers took a 4-2 lead in the fourth. After a walk to Kaden Blankenship, Carson Suess singled to left field. A base hit by Tyler Littlefield pushed across Blankenship for a one-run advantage. A wild pitch allowed Suess to race home for the two-run lead.

Lander pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-4 working margin.

Down by three in the seventh, Hannon recorded a two-out single up the middle. However, he was left stranded.

The Bearcats plated their eighth run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

USC Aiken tried to cut into the deficit in the eighth. With one down, Jeff Cyr walked and moved to second on a base knock by Jose Hernandez. A fly ball and strikeout ended the threat.

In the ninth, Joseph Mozingo reached on an error. He moved to second on a two-out wild pitch. A walk to McQuillan put two on base, but USC Aiken could not push across another run.

For the game, Hannon and Nick Tripp had two hits apiece. McQuillan drove in two and scored once. Littlefield had one RBI.

The Pacers return to action in the PBC Tournament. The team will play at Georgia College in a three-game series next weekend. Times and complete bracket will be announced by the PBC office on Monday.
