Moore Enters Record Book Twice As Pacers Split With Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a doubleheader at Georgia College Sunday behind the bat of Brooke Moore. After losing the first game 7-4, head coach Jaclin Poole's team won by a score of 12-0 in game two.

The Pacers are now 19-16 overall and 6-9 in league play.

Moore entered the record book twice on Sunday. With her second round-tripper of the second game, she registered her seventh RBI in the game, which tied Ashley Metts for the school record. Metts set the record on Feb. 21, 2015 with a grand slam and three-run home run in the 15-8, eight-inning victory at Lander.

Moore hit one round-tripper in the opener and blasted two home runs in the nightcap. The three long shots sent her into a tie for eighth place on the career home run list with 14. She's in a tie with Keshia Venable and Sarah Harvey. The three round-trippers in the doubleheader put her past Lauren Locklear, Sarah Montei, Andrea Daring and Hannah Price in the record book. The four former Pacers were tied for 10th on the list prior to Moore surpassing them.

In game one, USC Aiken trailed 5-0 heading into the fifth stanza. With two down, Brianna Dow earned a walk and moved to second when Mallory Shaver drew a base on balls. Emily Ayers reached on a miscue by the center fielder, which allowed Dow and Shaver to cross home plate to make it 5-2.

Down 6-2 in the sixth, Skylar Morley reached on a muffed throw. Moore belted a two-run shot, pulling the visitors within two at 6-4. USC Aiken trailed 7-4 in the seventh when Shaver reached on a base hit. Courtney Leisner came in as a pinch runner but was erased on a fielder's choice. Poole's team was unable to push across any more runs in the loss.

For the game, Lauren Wexler registered two hits. Ayers, Moore and Shaver had one hit apiece. Moore drove in two while Dow, Moore, Morley and Shaver scored. Lakyn Phillips went the distance in the circle and struck out four.

In the nightcap, Moore led the way with a three-for-four effort. She crushed two round-trippers and posted seven RBI while scoring twice. Ayers, Dow and Jena Dewalt had two this apiece. Ayers drove in four and scored twice while Dow drove in one and raced across home plate twice. Holly Daum and Wexler each had a hit. Taylor Butts, Daum, Leisner, Tara McGee, Shaver and Wexler all scored in the victory.

Payton Baker struck out a pair of Bobcats and gave up just three hits in the complete-game shutout. She faced just three batters over the minimum in the five-inning contest.

Scoreless in the third, Butts led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Dow singled to put two runners on. After Shaver was hit by a pitch, Ayers walked to drive in one. That resulted in a pitching change and Moore took advantage of it with a grand slam, pushing the score to 5-0.

With two down in the fourth, Wexler got things going with a base knock. She trotted to second when Dow walked. After a pitching change, Shaver reached on a fielder's choice to load the bags. Ayers followed it up with a single that plated two. Leisner was subbed in for Shaver as a pinch runner, but she was able to take her time on the base paths when Moore crushed a pitch for a three-run round-tripper for a 10-0 advantage.

USC Aiken added a pair of runs in the fifth. Daum led off the inning with a base hit to left field. McGee came in as a pinch hitter and earned a walk. With one down, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Dow knocked in Daum with a base knock. Two batters later, Ayers singled home McGee for the final 12-0 win.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Limestone at 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
