EATONTON, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is 10
th after the first day of competition at the Bobcat Invitational, which is hosted by Georgia College.
Barry leads the 15-team field on the par-70, 6,730-yard course. The squad is three-under par, 557, through two rounds. Clayton State is second at two-over par, 562, while West Florida is third at three-over par, 563.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team opened by shooting 16-over par, 296, but registered a two-over par, 282, over the next 18 holes. The Pacers carded a score of 18-over par, 578, over the first 36 holes of play.
After wrapping up the first round in 12
th place, USC Aiken moved up to 10
th as Valdosta State and Saint Leo dropped behind the Pacers.
Carlisle's team is three strokes back of North Georgia (575) and four strokes behind Lincoln Memorial (574). In all, five teams are within eight strokes of the Pacers ((Georgia Southwestern, Columbus State, Florida Southern, LMU and UNG).
USC Aiken was led by rookie
Oscar Abrahamsson. He opened the tournament by shooting five-over par, 75, before registering the team's best round of the day – two-under par, 68. Abrahamsson is tied for 23
rd at three-over par, 143.
Leonardo Bono and
Leo Johansson are a stroke behind Abrahamsson. The dyad is tied for 26
th.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final round of competition.
