AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost the final game of the series to Georgia College Sunday afternoon by a score of 13-0.
The Pacers are now 10-15 overall, including 3-6 in league play. The Bobcats improve to 15-9 overall and 6-3 against conference foes.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third,
Scott Huntley ripped a single to right field and moved to second on a call of interference. With one down,
Marcus Mastellone belted a shot the first baseman was unable to snag, putting runners on first and third. However, a double play ended the threat.
The Bobcats tacked on a run in the fourth and three in the sixth for an 8-0 lead.
With one away in the bottom of the sixth, Mastellone ripped a double past the third baseman and into the corner. Back-to-back outs left him stranded.
The Bobcats tacked on five runs in the seventh for the mercy rule to come into effect as the home team was unable to push across any runs in the bottom of the frame.
For the game, Mastellone led the way with two hits, including a double.
Jackson Hannon, Huntley and
Josh Sharp also recorded base knocks in the game.
Joel Haney took the loss. He saw his 35 scoreless inning streak come to a close with a run in the first. He worked four innings and had four strikeouts.
Austin Sandifer struck out a batter in 1.1 innings.
Austin Hohm,
Matt Garcia and
Grant Stanford all saw time on the mound in the contest.
