AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 6-2 decision to UNC Pembroke Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 6-8 on the season. The Braves improve to 10-5.
The visitors got on the board with a run in the third, another in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 4-0 advantage. However, interim head coach
Michael Holder's team got on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick Tripp led off the frame with an infield single.
Dalton Graves came in as a pinch hitter and earned a one-out walk. With two down and Tripp on third,
Tyler Littlefield drew a walk, pushing
James Eckert to second base to load the bags.
Sean McQuillan drew a walk to make it 4-1.
USC Aiken had a chance to do some more damage, but a trio of Pacers were left on the base paths with a deep fly ball to end the inning.
USC Aiken sliced into the margin in the seventh.
Jackson Hannon was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by Tripp.
Kaden Blankenship lofted a fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly, pulling the home team within two at 4-2.
The Braves managed to add a pair of insurance runs in the ninth for the 6-2 final score.
Tripp led the way with three hits while Hannon and McQuillan added two base knocks apiece. Blankenship and McQuillan had one RBI apiece while Hannon and Tripp crossed home in the loss.
