Pacers Drop Twinbill To Bobcats

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team both games of a doubleheader to Georgia College by scores of 9-5 and 4-0.

The Pacers are now 10-14 overall, including 3-5 in league play.

In game one, interim head coach Michael Holder's team jumped on top with a run in the first when Jeff Cyr knocked in Jackson Hannon on a single. Trailing 2-1 in the second, Nick Tripp tied it when he raced home on a wild pitch. Tyler Littlefield's sacrifice bunt plated Carson Suess, who had singled earlier in the inning. 

Down 7-3 in the fifth, Sean McQuillan recorded a lead-off single. Three batters later, he scored on Cyr's double to right field. USC Aiken fell behind 8-4 but pulled within three with a run in the seventh. Jose Hernandez entered as a pinch hitter and promptly ripped a single through the right side of the infield. He moved to third on a one-out base knock from Hannon. Hernandez scored on a fielder's choice by Josh Sharp

In the game, Hunter Steger got the start and took the loss. He struck out three batters. Louie Smith struck out four in 4.1 innings of relief work. AJ Deibel wrapped up the game by throwing the final 2.1 frames. 

At the plate, Cyr led the way with three base knocks, including a double, while also driving in two. Scott Huntley accounted for a double. 

In game two, Hannon registered the team's lone hit of the afternoon on a high-bounding ball over the pitcher toward second base.

Jacob Rye got the start while Peyton Boozer came in and had two strikeouts. Jacob Fletcher saw time on the mound and registered three strikeouts.
