Pacers Drop Season Opener

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 2-0 decision to UNC Pembroke Saturday afternoon.

UNC Pembroke managed to no-hit the Pacers in the opener.

Austin Sandifer worked two frames for interim head coach Michael Holder's team. He struck out a pair of batters and gave up two runs on two hits. Joel Haney accounted for five strikeouts in four scoreless frames while Adam Krissinger struck out two batters in a pair of innings.

UNCP scored a pair of runs in the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Jackson Hannon reached on an error and moved to second when Nick Tripp was hit by a pitch. Kaden Blankenship was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. However, the Pacers posted back-to-back outs to end the inning.

Jose Hernandez drew a one-out walk in the sixth. With two down, he swiped second. However, he was left stranded in scoring position. Sean McQuillan was hit by a pitch in the seventh, but three consecutive strikeouts ended the frame. Tripp earned a one-out walk in the eighth, but he was unable to move into scoring position.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they travel to UNC Pembroke. The game is slated to start at 1:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
