PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team registered five runs over the final three innings for a 5-3 win at UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season.
Trailing 3-0,
Michael Holder's team got things going in the seventh inning. After
Sean McQuillan reached on an error,
Jeff Cyr ripped a 3-2 pitch to left field, allowing McQuillan to race to third base.
Kaden Blankenship belted a single through the left side of the infield, plating McQuillan for a 3-1 score.
With two down, a wild pitch allowed Cyr to score, making it a 3-2 contest.
USC Aiken took the lead with a two-run eighth frame.
Dalton Graves drew a one-out walk. He took his time around the base paths when
Nick Tripp rocketed the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a 4-3 advantage.
Carson Suess posted a one-out single in the ninth. He went to second on
Tyler Littlefield's base knock down the left field line. A wild pitch pushed each runner up 90 feet before
Josh Sharp's sacrifice fly scored Suess for a two-run lead.
For the game, Tripp garnered two hits, including a two-run homer. He drove in two and scored once. Blankenship, Cyr, Littlefield, Seuss and Sharp all had hits. Blankenship and Sharp each had one RBI while Cyr, Graves, McQuillan, Suess and Tripp all crossed home plate.
Luke Parker started for the Pacers on the mound. He worked two frames, giving up three earned runs. Parker struck out five.
Jacob Fletcher tossed 2.1 innings with two strikeouts before
Austin Hohm threw two-thirds of a frame.
Peyton Boozer worked 3.1 innings before
Dylan Wilhelm came in for the final two outs.
Boozer picked up the win after notching four strikeouts. Wilhelm earned the four-pitch save.
