Tripp Drives In Two At Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team dropped a 12-5 contest at Newberry Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 5-7 overall while the Wolves improve to 14-2.

Interim head coach Michael Holder's team was paced by Nick Tripp's two RBI. Jeff Cyr and Sean McQuillan each had one RBI. Tripp and Cyr posted two hits apiece.

Cyr, Tyler Littlefield, McQuillan, Joseph Mozingo and Josh Sharp all crossed home once.

On the mound, Luke Parker took the loss after working 2.1 innings. Louie Smith tossed three frames while Austin Sandifer, Austin Hohm and Evan Condon all saw time in the game. Condon had two of the team's four strikeouts.

Newberry posted two runs in the third, one in the fourth and sixth in the sixth for a 9-0 edge. However, Holder's team plated five runs in the seventh frame.

Littlefield came in as a pinch hitter and delivered a base knock up the middle. With one down, Mozingo singled to right. McQuillan's base hit plated Littlefield.

The Wolves changed pitchers but Cyr answered with a hit to left center, scoring Mozingo. Sharp's hit loaded the bags.

With two down, everyone moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Tripp's single to right center plated Cyr and Sharp. However, that was as close as the team would get as the home squad tacked on a run in the seventh and two in the eighth for the final tally.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they host Newberry at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
