AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 13-8 decision to Florida Southern Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the year.
USC Aiken jumped out with a four-run first inning but the Mocs used seven round-trippers over the final seven innings in the win.
Jeff Cyr and
Jackson Hannon scored when
Dalton Graves reached on a fielding error in the first. Moments later,
Nick Tripp scored on a failed pick-off attempt.
Josh Sharp's base knock plated Graves for the 4-0 edge.
Leading 4-2 in the third, Graves belted a solo blast to right field for a 5-2 lead.
The Mocs took a 6-5 lead but interim head coach
Michael Holder's team knotted it at 6-6 when Tripp scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
FSC held a 9-6 margin in the sixth, but Hannon's two-run round-tripper plated Cyr to make it 9-8. However, that was as close as the home team could get the rest of the way.
For the game, Cyr and Hannon had three hits apiece.
Sean McQuillan, Sharp and Suess had two hits each. Graves drove in a team-high three RBI.
Cyr, Graves, Hannon and Tripp all crossed home twice.
On the mound,
Joel Haney took the loss.
Austin Sandifer started the game and struck out five batters.
Adam Krissinger worked a frame as did
Jacob Rye.
