Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

USC Aiken Hits 16 Three-Point Shots In Win Over Erskine

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team cruised to an 89-62 win over Erskine Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 9-3 on the season while the Flying Fleet drop to 0-13.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's squad connected on 16 three-point buckets, which is the third most in the school's history.

USC Aiken was led by Jammy Pierre-Louis' team-high 15 points off the bench. He buried five-of-10 from distance in just 15 minutes of work. Karon Boyd narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jalen McCoy and Jameel Rideout each added 11 markers in the victory.

McCoy was solid in every facet of the game, totaling seven rebounds and six assists. He hit five-of-eight from the floor in just 20 minutes of work.

The Pacers connected on 11-of-25 from the three-point line in the first half. USC Aiken led the visitors 52-28 at the break, but also tallied more points from downtown (33) than Erskine did from the floor in the opening period.

USC Aiken jumped out to an 11-2 lead after Tehree Horn snagged a rebound and went the distance before hitting a jumper in the lane. Moments later, McCoy found Pierre-Louis for a three-ball, giving the home team a 25-15 advantage. With 6:28 to play in the half, Daniel Parrish found Horn for a three-point bucket and a 41-19 lead. A late three-point shot from Boyd off a pass from Rideout extended the margin to 26 before the Flying Fleet hit a shot with six seconds to play in the period.

Although the visitors sliced the deficit to 16 early in the second period, Vanderslice's squad rattled off 15 straight points, ensuring the victory. During the run, McCoy got things started with an inside shot. Pierre-Louis pulled up from distance for a three-ball on the break. McCoy converted an old-fashioned three-point play before Parrish's tip-in made it 63-37. Pierre-Louis will drill another three-point bucket before Parrish ended the run on a pair of free throws for a 68-37 lead with 12:33 to play.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 32-of-73 from the floor, including 16-of-40 from deep. The team also hit nine free throws and out-rebounded the visitors 57-31. The 57 rebounds marks the second most for the program in the Division II era. The 20 offensive rebounds resulted in 19 second-chance points.

Vanderslice's team outscored the Flying Fleet 47-11 off the bench.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Lander at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
