AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken hit .261 in the 3-0 sweep of Young Harris Friday evening in the home finale.
The Pacers improve to 16-12 overall, including 5-9 in league play. The Mountain Lions stand at 3-25 on the year and 0-14 against conference foes.
Rookie
Anna Sommer blasted 10 kills to lead everyone while hitting .562.
Emily Lammers narrowly missed a double-double with eight kills and 12 digs while
Kaitlyn Rodriguez totaled eight kills and eight digs.
Sadie McKay chipped in six kills to go along with four digs and an ace while
Brooke Wroten notched five kills and a block.
Cat Bodick,
Mallory Barash,
Caroline Foster and
Sophie Meredith all had a kill in the win. Barash dished out 15 assists and Foster distributed 11. Meredith had eight assists and an ace.
At the service line,
Izabella De Lima served up a pair of aces as did Lammers. Along the back line,
Kari Mercer tied Lammers for match-high honors with 12 digs. At the net, Sommer led everyone with three blocks, including one of the solo variety.
Tucker Patterson picked up three digs and was in on a block.
For the match, head coach
Glenn Cox's team slammed home 41 kills while limiting the visitors to 17 kills, 19 digs and a -0.22 hitting percentage.
USC Aiken dominated every statistical category for the match, totaling 52 points compared to 21 for YHC. Cox's group served up seven aces to just two for the Mountain Lions. USC Aiken had four blocks compared to two by YHC. The Pacers garnered 40 assists and 50 digs in the match.
Down 2-1 in the first set, an error by the visitors started a 6-0 spurt for the home team. USC Aiken never looked back in the 25-11 win. The home team also embarked on an 8-0 run later in the frame with Rodriguez serving.
Tied at 9-9 in the second frame, Cox's group went on a 9-1 run to put the set away. During that time, Barash and McKay were the ones serving.
Up 6-4 in the final set, USC Aiken once again put the frame away with a timely 8-2 spurt. Meredith and Lammers each had aces during the run while Lammers, Sommer and Wroten had kills. Rodriguez finished off the match with a kill, sending USC Aiken to its 12
th consecutive winning season at the Convocation Center.
