Wynston Johnson Leads USC Aiken To Win Over Belmont Abbey

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team scored early and often in the 3-0 win over Belmont Abbey Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 2-8 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 1-8-3.

In the 13th minute of action, Wynston Johnson played the ball to Davide Panucci, who one-timed it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

At the 23:53 mark, Johnson found Lucas Pegorer in the box for a 2-0 advantage.

The score remained the same throughout the first half. Just 4:31 into the second half, Jaymee Kambel connected a pass to Johnson, who quickly pounded home the pass for the 3-0 score.

Despite Belmont Abbey pushing forward, head coach Ike Ofoje's team continued to play superb defense, limiting the opposition's chances. The defense turned away the Crusaders multiple times in the box, resulting in transition opportunities. Other times, the defense managed to send the ball deep, forcing BAC to reset its offense.

Daniel Ailemen registered a shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the attempt was turned away by the keeper.

For the match, Johnson accounted for two assists and a goal in the win. Panucci and Pegorer each had a goal while Kambel added an assist.

Cason Donahue played all 90 minutes between the pipes. He accounted for four saves in the contest.

For the match, USC Aiken had 13 shots, including six on goal. The squad accounted for eight corner kicks.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Flagler at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
