USC Aiken Falls To Augusta Friday Evening

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Augusta Friday evening in a PBC contest.

The Pacers are now 15-12 overall, including 4-9 against conference foes.

Head coach Glenn Cox was led by Kaitlyn Rodriguez's double-double effort of 11 kill sand 11 digs. Emily Lammers added 10 kills and 12 digs while Sadie McKay notched eight kills.

Mallory Barash led the team with 23 assists and 16 digs while Caroline Foster contributed eight assists.

At the service line, Lammers notched a match-high three aces. Kari Mercer chipped in two aces.

Defensively, Mercer led the way with 22 digs.

Tied at 4-4 in the first set, Rodriguez took an overpass and slammed it down for a lead the team would not relinquish. Rodriguez made it 6-4 seconds later before Lammers served up an ace for a three-point edge. USC Aiken held a 19-14 advantage, forcing a time-out by the visitors. After the break, Barash and Anna Sommer combined for a block.

Up 20-15, McKay and Lammers had back-to-back kills. Barash and Brooke Wroten combined for a block. McKay posted a kill before Barash and Wroten combined for a point, giving the team a 25-15 win.

After dropping the second set, Cox's team trailed 17-15 in the third frame. A kill by Sommer pulled the team within two. Augusta led 18-16 but Rodriguez kept the team close with a kill. Down 19-17, an error gave a side-out to the Pacers. Mercer served up an ace before a miscue by the visitors made it 20-19 in favor of the home team. AU reeled off five straight points en route to the 25-21 win.

Down 13-16 in the fourth frame, Sommer got things going with a kill. Two plays later, Caroline Foster and Wroten combined for a block. A kill from Rodriguez made it 14-10. Down by five, two straight errors from the Jaguars and a point from Lammers pulled the team within two at 15-13. However, that was as close as the team could get in the 25-18 loss.

The Pacers return to action Friday, Nov. 4, when they host Young Harris at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for the home finale.
