Pacers Cruise To Win In Home Finale

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team scored early and often in the home finale, picking up a 10-0 victory over Allen Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 7-3-4 on the season. It marked the most goals for USC Aiken since a 12-0 victory at Georgia Southwestern on Sept. 22, 2004. The shutout also marks the squad's eighth of the season, tying a program record.  

Overall, 10 student-athletes recorded at least one point. Head coach Tina Murphy's team was led by Olivia Pall's two goals and one assist.

Pall got things going just 4:56 in. Baylea Payne was credited with an assist on the play. Pall added her second goal of the contest in the 14th minute after dribbling past the defender for an open shot.

USC Aiken increased the margin to 3-0 just over a minute later when Pall found Sonya Villarreal for the score. Jackie Montes' long pass to Pall started the play as both were credited with assists.

Payne got in the goal scoring column after collecting a rebound off a shot from Caroline Czarnecki to make it 4-0 at the 15:16 mark.

Montes pushed the margin to 5-0 after getting off a shot that found the back of the net. Allison Mann garnered the assist on the play.

A foul in the box at the 30:10 mark of the half allowed Czarnecki to take a penalty kick. She promptly rocketed home the ball in the lower right of the frame for a 6-0 lead.

After stealing a pass near midfield, Erika Bateman took possession and dribbled to the top of the box before blasting a shot that found the back of the net for her first career goal in her final home contest.

Kenna Souder received a pass from Villarreal and promptly scored at the 38:24 mark. Thirty-four seconds later, Teagen Kersey dribbled through a pair of defenders before going across the frame for her first goal of the year.

Megan Gettys completed the scoring at the 40:06 mark with a 20-yard shot, making it 10-0.

The teams agreed to shorten the second half to 30 minutes.

For the match, USC Aiken tallied 31 shots, including 21 on goal. The team accounted for 10 goals and six assists.

The Pacers return to action in the PBC Tournament. The PBC will release the bracket Monday.
