AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team played Georgia Southwestern to a scoreless draw Monday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-10-1 on the year, including 1-8-1 in league play.
Finlay Dyer's shot in the ninth minute of action sailed just left of the frame.
Fabian Avila took a shot in the 21
st minute that missed just high of the crossbar.
Davide Panucci nearly got on the board, but his shot was stopped by the keeper in the 30
th minute of work.
In the second half, head coach
Ike Ofoje's team registered the first three shots.
Pablo Corcuera missed left before
Solon Pinto's attempt was blocked.
Jaymee Kambel blasted a shot that missed high in the 55
th minute.
After a nice play to get the ball into the box, Pinto's shot was saved at the 59:19 mark. Dyer's attempt was saved at the 60:23 mark.
Pedro Marexiano's attempt was thwarted by the keeper less than a minute later, keeping the match scoreless.
Dyer almost got the Pacers on the board in the 74
th minute after winding up and booting a shot from 35 yards out. The shot curved to the upper right of the frame and at the last second, the keeper was able to get his hands on it.
With under 10 minutes to play, Kambel's shot on goal was stopped, preserving the shutout draw.
For the match,
Tyler Hughes stopped all five shots on goal en route to earning the clean slate while playing all 90 minutes.
Pinto registered four shots, including two on goal, in the match. Dyer had three shots, including two on frame.
In all, USC Aiken totaled 14 shots – seven of which were on goal. Ofoje's squad earned five corner kicks in the tie.
