Pacers Fall To Bearcats, 3-1

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at Lander Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 13-8 overall, including 4-6 in league play.

After dropping the first set, head coach Glenn Cox's team bounced back for the 25-18 win in the second stanza. Tied at 13-13, an error gave the visitors the lead. Then, Anna Sommer slammed down a kill before an attack error pushed the edge to 16-13. Emily Lammers extended the margin to four. USC Aiken slowly increased the lead, but Lander pulled within six at 24-18. However, the Bearcats recorded an attack error, giving the Pacers the seven-point win.

In the third set, USC Aiken took an 18-10 lead after two errors by the Bearcats. However, the home squad managed to tie it at 21-21. The teams went back-and-forth and Lammers managed to knot the score at 24-24 with a kill. However, Lander recorded a 27-25 win.

Cox's team registered an 8-3 margin in the fourth frame. Up 4-3, Lammers and Sommer combined for a block. Lammers served up a pair of aces en route to the five-point lead. Lander managed to take the lead and hold on for the 25-21 win.

For the match, Sadie McKay led the team with 13 kills while Lammers added 10. Abbey Schad accounted for eight kills and Kaitlyn Rodriguez added seven.

Caroline Forster distributed 30 assists while Mallory Barash chipped in nine.

Lammers was in on three blocks while Schad and Sommer had two apiece.

Defensively, Kari Mercer led the team with 19 digs. Lammers had a double-double with 15 digs and Rodriguez posted 14.

Lammers totaled four aces to lead the way.
