AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest to Flagler Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 13-9 on the season, including 4-7 against conference foes.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-23.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Anna Sommer's 11 kills.
Emily Lammers and
Sadie McKay had eight kills apiece.
Mallory Barash distributed 20 assists and garnered a pair of service aces. Lammers also tallied a team-best two aces.
Defensively,
Kari Mercer led the charge with 13 digs. Lammers accounted for nine while
Kaitlyn Rodriguez chipped in six.
Trailing 18-11 in the first set, Sommer slammed home a kill. Barash served up an ace before
Kaitlyn Lund and Sommer combined for a block. A kill from Lammers made it 18-15. A 4-0 spurt with Lammers serving heled the team pull within one at 20-19, but the Saints managed to register the set win.
Down 18-12 in the second, Cox's team mounted a huge comeback, taking a 21-19 lead. During the run, Lammers had a pair of aces and Sommer registered a thunderous kill. Sommer made it 22-21 with a kill but Flagler reeled off four straight points for the victory.
Despite trailing 24-18 in the third frame, USC Aiken continued to push forward. Lammers started a spurt with a kill. Rodriguez posted back-to-back kills before McKay recorded an ace. Lammers added a kill to pull within one at 24-23 but the home team was unable to tie it.
