AIKEN, S.C. – On Wednesday afternoon, the University of South Carolina Aiken held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Athletic Performance Center, which is located next to the Convocation Center.

A nearly $300,000 project that began as a request from the student-athletes, with COVID-19 having an impact, took less than three years to complete from start to finish.

"We are so thankful for the support of our alums and friends of the university who helped make this possible," Director of Athletics Jim Herlihy said. "This began as a request from the Student-Athlete Council on campus and wea re excited to use this repurposed space on campus to provide growth and development for our student-athletes during their career.

"This will increase our ability to meet the performance needs of all our teams," Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine Brandon Aiken stated.

The 2,400-square ft. facility will now allow virtually every team to train at the same time.

""There will not be any more splitting up teams and scheduling conflicts are greatly reduced. We can do a lot more to help the athletes achieve their potential and reduce the likelihood of injury," Aiken said.

USC Aiken will announce its new Head Strength & Conditioning Coach next week.
