MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Head coach
Mark Miller's team did not allow Georgia College to score a point for a stretch of 10:55, including the entire second quarter, as the University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team netted a 58-35 victory Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 5-7 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Bobcats drop to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in league play. The win by USC Aiken meant it was the first home loss by GC.
Miller's team was led by
Grace Crawford's 15 points on five-of-seven shooting from downtown.
Chidinma Okafor tallied 14 points and eight rebounds to go along with four blocks while
Jentri Worley garnered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Delaney Trushel had eight points and six rebounds while
Emily Trushel tallied five points and seven rebounds.
Allycia Harris accounted for four points and six boards.
Leading 14-10 after the first quarter, Miller's team embarked on a 16-0 second quarter to break open the game. A jumper by
Emily Trushel made it a 20-10 contest at the 7:41 mark. After Crawford snagged a defensive board, she buried a three-ball, making it 23-10. On the ensuing possession, she found Okafor for a lay-up. A steal by Worley led to a lay-up for
Delaney Trushel at the 3:13 mark.
Delaney Trushel's three-point shot gave the visitors a 30-10 lead heading into intermission.
The Bobcats managed to break the scoreless drought 43 seconds into the third frame, making it 30-12. Leading 34-17,
Madison Williams found Crawford for another three-point shot. GC pulled within 14 with less than a minute to play in the third quarter.
The teams played virtually even throughout the fourth frame. Okafor hit a bucket to make it 44-27. The teams traded baskets as Worley canned an inside shot with 7:57 to play to make it 46-29. Up by 14,
Delaney Trushel found Crawford for another shot from distance, pushing the advantage to 49-32.
Worley found
Delaney Trushel for a 23-foot three-point bucket for a 19-point edge with just over three minutes to go. Leading by 17, Harris netted four straight points and Worley hit a field goal, giving the visitors a 58-35 margin with 1:06 to go.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 23-of-68 from the floor (33.8 percent), including 10-of-20 from downtown (50 percent). The squad only got to the foul line twice, but calmly hit both attempts. Miller's team limited the Bobcats to 12-of-66 from the floor (18.2 percent).
USC Aiken dished out 11 assists, had six blocks and dominated the paint, 26-8.
