Allycia Harris Nets 21 At Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 67-42 contest at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 5-8 overall and 1-4 in PBC play. The Hurricanes are now 12-2 on the year, including 4-1 in the league.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by the 21-point effort from Allycia Harris. She also snagged seven rebounds to go along with four steals. Jentri Worley tallied six points while Yasmine Fairchild added five points and six rebounds. Chidinma Okafor had eight rebounds and two blocks.

In the first quarter, Harris netted all eight points for the visitors. She knotted the game at 2-2 on a lay-up just over three minutes into the game. Harris tied the game less than a minute later on another shot from close range. When Grace Crawford found her for a lay-up, it made the score 8-6. Trailing 10-6, Harris was fouled and made both charity shots, pulling the Pacers within two. GSW extended the margin to four, 12-8, prior to the end of the first quarter.

Down 20-8, Emily Trushel took a pass from Worley and hit an inside shot at the 7:07 mark. Harris made one of two free throws, cutting the margin to nine, 20-11. Trailing 27-11, Harris canned two foul shots and Worley hit a field goal, pulling the team within 12 at 27-15. The Hurricanes led 31-17 at the break.

GSW netted the first four points of the third quarter and would not allow Miller's team any closer than 16 the rest of the way. Harris made it 35-19 with a pair of free throws. After a missed three-pointer, Mackenzie Cochrane snagged the offensive board and laid it up and in to make it 37-21. Down 39-21, Cochrane found Harris for a bucket. The Hurricanes slowly added to their advantage, making it 56-32 heading into the fourth frame.

The Pacers played virtually even with GSW in the fourth quarter. Crawford netted a jumper to get the scoring going. Delaney Trushel found Harris for a lay-up, Worley hit two free throws and Madison Williams connected on a charity toss. Ireona Brooks found Fairchild for a basket and Brooks hit a free throw, completing the scoring for the visitors.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 15-of-54 from the floor (27.8 percent). The team hit 12-of-18 free throws (66.7 percent). The Pacers forced 16 turnovers and converted them into eight points. The team grabbed 37 rebounds, resulting in nine second-chance points. The team registered 28 points in the paint.
