USC Aiken Drops Match To Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 5-0 decision to Flagler Wednesday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The Saints jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before head coach Ike Ofoje's team was able to get a shot off.  Davide Panucci blasted a shot toward the goal in the ninth minute, but it was saved. A minute later, the Saints made it 3-0.

A brilliantly played ball into the box resulted in Fabian Avila attempting to head the ball in, but his near-post shot was stopped. At the 15:54 mark, Panucci blasted a shot that sailed left of the frame.

Flagler would add another goal late in the half and two Pacer shots were unable to find the back of the net. Heading into the second period, the Saints led 4-0.

Flagler tacked on a goal in the second period for the final 5-0 score.

Despite trailing in the second half, USC Aiken continued to push forward and create opportunities in the offensive third of the pitch.

For the match, Felipe Cerda stopped three shots in goal.

Panucci led the squad with a pair of shots, including one on goal. Abelardo Rodriguez and Maik Spiekermann each had two attempts in the match.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they play at Young Harris at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
