AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Augusta Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 12-2 on the season, including a 2-1 record in league play. The Jaguars are 11-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
For the match, Saide McKay led the team with nine kills while
Alisha Pitt hit .438 with seven kills against no errors in 16 attempts.
Emily Lammers hammered home eight kills to go along with a pair of aces.
Anita Cookey-Gam and
Alie Smith had five kills each.
Caroline Foster dished out a match-best 30 assists. She also chipped in seven digs.
Defensively,
Kari Mercer totaled 17 digs while
Lily Andrews contributed 11 digs. McKay chipped in eight digs while Smith added seven digs.
At the net, Cookey-Gam notched a pair of solo blocks. McKay and Pitt combined for a block.
USC Aiken did not take its first lead of the match until the third frame, netting a 4-1 advantage. During the spurt, Pitt started it with a kill. Cookey-Gam had back-to-back points before Smith slammed home a kill.
The visitors knotted the set up at 5-5. From there, it was a back-and-forth affair in the first part of the stanza. A kill from McKay pushed the margin to 7-5, but the Jaguars quickly answered with two points of their own. Lammers slammed home a kill for an 8-7 lead. McKay's kill gave the home squad a 9-8 edge.
Down 12-10, Cookey-Gam found the court and Foster served up an ace, tying it at 12-12. The Jaguars ran off seven straight points and never relinquished the lead despite a hard fought effort by USC Aiken.
