Pacers Sweep Bobcats, 3-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep at Georgia College Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 12-1 on the season, including a 2-0 mark in league play. The Bobcats fall to 4-10 overall and 0-2 against conference competition.

Alie Smith led the way with a double-double effort. She accounted for 16 kills and 15 digs. Emily Lammers was spectacular, hammering home 13 kills while hitting .550.

Sadie McKay and Alisha Pitt each had eight kills while Anita Cookey-Gam chipped in seven. Emily Duggan notched one ace.

Caroline Foster distributed 46 assists, which is the seventh most in a three-set match in school history.

Defensively, Kari Mercer led everyone with 23 digs. At the net, Pitt blocked a pair of shots.

In the first set, head coach Glenn Cox's team led 24-22 but the home squad tied it at 24-24. The teams went back-and-forth until. The Pacers trailed 27-26but Smith slammed home a kill. Two straight errors by the Bobcats made it a 29-27 victory for USC Aiken.

The Pacers trailed 17-15 in the second frame but knotted it at 17-17 after points from Lammers and Cookey-Gam. Tied at 20-20, Pitt found the court for a point. She and Smith blocked a shot for a two-point edge. An attack error pushed it to 23-20. Leading 24-23, Smith ended the set with a thunderous kill.

Cox's group jumped out to a 10-5 edge in the third frame on a kill from Pitt and never looked back en route to the 25-16 win.
