AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 1-0 hard-fought decision to Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening in the rain.
The Pacers are now 1-4 on the season, including an 0-2 ledger in league play.
Just two minutes into the contest,
Yannis Wome blasted a shot, but it was saved. In the 17
th minute,
Davide Panucci's attempted was thwarted by the GSW keeper.
After
Joey Valenti's second save of the match, Wome and Panucci each garnered shots, but neither was able to connect. A
Hippolyte Denis attempt sailed wide of the frame in the 23
rd minute as both teams played to a scoreless draw at the intermission.
The Hurricanes broke through the strong Pacer defense in the 64
th minute off a corner kick for a 1-0 lead.
USC Aiken looked to have multiple counter-attacks, but the squad was whistled for being narrowly offside.
For the match, Wome and Panucci each accounted for two shots in the match. Valenti played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped three shots.
