AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 6-2 decision to Mars Hill Saturday evening in non-conference action.
The Pacers are now 1-2 on the season while the Lions improve to 2-1-1.
The visitors jumped on top with a five-goal burst in the first 18 minutes of action. However, head coach
Ike Ofoje's team continued to push forward offensively.
USC Aiken got on the board in the 27
th minute of play when
Jaymee Kambel tallied his third goal of the season, making it 5-1.
The Lions would counter at the 34:43 mark, scoring a goal to make it 6-1 before the break.
After intermission,
Maik Spiekermann found the back of the net for a 6-2 score in the 68
th minute.
Ofoje's team played aggressive throughout, registering a shot on goal in the 77
th minute. Seconds later, the squad drew a corner kick, but overall the MHU defense held USC Aiken at bay in the match.
For the match, MHU held a 22-10 advantage in shots, including a 13-4 edge in shots on goal. USC Aiken totaled four corner kicks.
Between the pipes,
Joey Valenti got the start and picked up one save.
Felipe Cerda saw time in goal and faced eight shots, stopping six.
Spiekermann led the way with three shots while Kambel had two.
Wynston Johnson,
Lucas Pegorer,
Davide Panucci,
Linus Hulskamp and
Mohamed Abdallah all took shots in the loss.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Clayton State at 5 p.m.
