AIKEN, S.C. – Throughout the month of June, the University of South Carolina Aiken Athletic Communications office will showcase the top moment from each program from the 2020-21 academic year.
After taking the first two games from Young Harris on Apr. 17, the Pacers had a back-and-forth affair on Apr. 18 against the Mountain Lions. The top moment of the season came with a walk-off win in the bottom of the 12
th inning against YHC.
USC Aiken trailed 5-0 in the bottom of the first, but the squad made it 5-3 in the bottom of the inning.
James Eckert,
Jackson Hannon and
Nick Tripp all scored in the frame.
Down 7-3 in the fourth,
David Jacobs scored on an error.
Jeff Cyr scored on a wild pitch while
Marcus Mastellone's groundout allowed
Tai Gilbert to cross home plate.
Morgan Hyde doubled in Eckert and Hannon's single brought Hyde home for an 8-7 lead.
Down 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth, Eckert doubled home
Trey Polewski. In the ninth, Cyr singled in
Bryce Bulls to tie the game at 10-10.
In the 12
th, YHC belted a solo homer for an11-10 edge. However, the Pacers continued to battle. In the bottom of the inning,
Leo Horacio came in as a pinch hitter and tripled to right field. Eckert drove him in with a single. Hyde singled and moved to second on the throw while Eckert raced to third. After an intentional walk,
Kaden Blankenship ended the game with a sacrifice fly to right field for the 12-11 victory.
On the mound, Hyde worked the final three innings to pick up the win.
