AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at Augusta Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the season.
Sydney Bresee led the way with a team-best 10 kills while
Alisha Pitt registered nine to go along with three blocks. Fellow rookie
Kaitlyn Rodriguez tallied eight kills while
Anita Cookey-Gam and
Alie Smith had seven apiece.
Caroline Foster recorded her second double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs.
Kayla Duggan had 21 digs in the contest.
Defensively,
Kari Mercer posted a career-high 29 digs while Smith added 14.
After losing the first frame, USC Aiken fell behind early in the second stanza. Down 20-17, Rodriguez took a pass from Foster for the kill. After a bad set by the home team,
Kayla Duggan served up an ace.
Trailing 21-20, Bresee smashed a pass for a kill and an attack error gave the visitors a 22-21 lead. Back-to-back errors by the home team pushed it to 24-21. Moments later, Smith finished the set with a thunderous kill.
In the third set, USC Aiken trailed 21-16 but rallied for a 22-21 advantage. Bresee had two kills in the stanza while four miscues by the Jaguars helped even the set. However, AU would go on to win 25-23.
The Pacers return to action Saturday, March 20 when they play at Young Harris. The match is slated to start at 3 p.m.
